1867:  THE LONDON & EDINBURGH GAZETTE:

            NOTES:

--Searches were made on key words such as “photographic”, “photographer”, etc. and “stereoscope” etc.   Occasionally the search engine missed entries which were found only by chance.  Thus, although quite thorough, this should not be considered a complete listing of all photography-related entries.

--Patent Law Notices:  With patents I could not always tell if a name listed was a patent agent or the inventor.  This is esp. true when foreign inventors sent patent applications to the UK which were published in the Gazette.  When I could, I tracked the invention back to the inventor. When unclear no entry was made.   If several people jointly applied for a photographic-related patent, all names have been indexed even if the individuals were not listed as photographers.  Alternatively, with non-photographic patents and joint claimants, only those described as photographers have been indexed.  Also it should be noted that non-photographers took out photographic-related patents, and conversely photographers took out non-photographic patents.

--Insolvent Debtors:  Insolvent debtors had various addresses, both home and business listed for several years.  Sometimes it is difficult to identify which is which.  All have been listed.

--It is probable, that non-photographic notices exist for some of the individuals listed here, but a name search would need to be conducted.  Thus it should not be assumed ALL entries for each person have been included.  Only those with references to photography and stereoscopy have been indexed.
